Check why the photo needs changing
An inaccurate or unsuitable image, a routine renewal and a personal preference can lead to different enquiries. Ask ICP which update or replacement service applies to the reason. Do not assume that a standalone photo change is available through every channel.
Prepare the portrait to the current standard
Use a recent clear image with the required background, framing and facial visibility. Avoid beauty filters, artificial changes and shadows. The authority assesses acceptability; an attractive portrait is not necessarily suitable for an official identity record.
Review other identity details
If a new passport, name change or corrected birth detail is involved, mention it before the application is prepared. The photograph should not be treated separately from the identity record where several fields need updating. Supporting documents may be required for changes.
Confirm fees and validity
Ask whether the selected service issues a replacement card, what fees apply and whether the original expiry remains. Track approval and delivery separately. Keep the previous record and application reference until the updated card is issued and its details have been checked.
